Use everything to get to wisdom

Proverbs 2:1-9

My son, if you take my words to heart,
if you set store by my commandments,
tuning your ear to wisdom,
and applying your heart to truth:

yes, if your plea is for clear perception,
if you cry out for discernment,
if you look for it as if it were silver,
and search for it as for buried treasure,
you will then understand what the fear of the Lord is,
and discover the knowledge of God.
For the Lord himself is giver of wisdom,
from his mouth issue knowledge and discernment.
He keeps his help for honest men,
he is the shield of those whose ways are honourable;
he stands guard over the paths of justice,
he keeps watch on the way of his devoted ones.
Then you will understand what virtue is, justice, and fair dealing,
all paths that lead to happiness.

Scripture: The words in the scripture that spoke to me today are

uning your ear to wisdom,
and applying your heart to truth:
yes, if your plea is for clear perception,
if you cry out for discernment,
if you look for it as if it were silver,

Observation: What is Jesus saying personally to me today – Use everything to get to wisdom

Here we have eyes, heart, voice, crying, searching and pleading used together to seek the wisdom and ultimately the happiness that God promises. It is not a singular approach and many things are required, perhaps it means that we need to use all our faculties to get there. It sounds like a provocation for us to look at how we are seeking the Lord and what are forgetting to use in our search for him in the treasure hunt.

Thank you for speaking to me Jesus

Application: How do I respond to what Jesus is saying to me today, right now what do I do?

What part of me am I not using to seek God,, his presence, wisdom, joy and happiness? I feel that sometimes I focus on the journey being a difficult one more than it being a blessed process and that my method is one of conversation only. I dedicate some time, set aside a process, tick the box and accept what comes my way. It is disciplined and predictable in a way, but am I opening myself to new ways or ways that I have dismissed and over looked? One thing I haven’t done for a while is a period of quite contemplation. Probably because I am not good being still, quiet and it does take a chunk of time as well. So today I will set aside at least half an hour for silence and contemplation. This is not a small commitment as my day id already full but I feel that this is what God wants me to do, search for Him in the quiet.

Prayer:

Lord,
In the quiet, in the stillness, in the nothingness is where I will be looking for you today.
Quieten my mind, take away the distractions,
help me to allow some space and time for just you and me.
Amen
