Unsure of the source, look to Jesus

John 10:1-10

Jesus said:
‘I tell you most solemnly, anyone who does not enter the sheepfold through the gate, but gets in some other way is a thief and a brigand.

The one who enters through the gate is the shepherd of the flock; the gatekeeper lets him in, the sheep hear his voice, one by one he calls his own sheep and leads them out. When he has brought out his flock, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow because they know his voice. They never follow a stranger but run away from him: they do not recognise the voice of strangers.’
Jesus told them this parable but they failed to understand what he meant by telling it to them.
So Jesus spoke to them again:
‘I tell you most solemnly,
I am the gate of the sheepfold.
All others who have come
are thieves and brigands;
but the sheep took no notice of them.
I am the gate.
Anyone who enters through me will be safe:
he will go freely in and out
and be sure of finding pasture.
The thief comes
only to steal and kill and destroy.
I have come
so that they may have life and have it to the full.’

Scripture: The words in the scripture that spoke to me today are

They never follow a stranger but run away from him: they do not recognise the voice of strangers.’

Observation: What is Jesus saying personally to me today – Unsure of the source, look to Jesus

There are so many voices, messages, people out there that have answers, ways to get close to God, that it is difficult to know what’s the truth and what comes from a human perspective. Sometime I know instinctively that it doesn’t resonate with me and other times it feels like the truth even if the descriptions do not match with my understanding or traditional Christian language. Gods messages are all founded in truth, universal truth, his ways are beyond me and I know that I don’t have all the answers. The truth is revealed through dialogue, through conversation and an open heart to what God says to each and every one of us. If I am unsure of the source then I must look to Jesus for the truth.

Thank you for speaking to me Jesus

Application: How do I respond to what Jesus is saying today, right now

I am being challenged through a new language of receiving Gods words and messages through two people. It is sometimes confusing, provocative and mysterious but I know that there is something in this that I need to listen to. I need to see how Jesus is speaking to me through these people, what my response should be and how I am able to connect this to my responses. There is a truth of love that sits behind it all but the language is what I find confusing. I will seek to have Jesus interpret it for me, I might even ask if the other people can say it in a away that might enable me to more deeply understand it within my Christian framework. I will be open to the spirit to make sure that it is my Shepard that is leading me.

reveal yourself to me in the ways that you have determined.
May my heart be open to receive your love and discern what your desires are for me.
May I not be distracted but only focused on you.
Your truth of love will conquer everything, conquer me.
