Trust in something greater than yourself

Psalm 115(116):10-11,15-18

Alleluia.
I trusted, even when I said:
‘I am sorely afflicted,’
and when I said in my alarm:
‘No man can be trusted.’

Alleluia.
O precious in the eyes of the Lord
is the death of his faithful.
Your servant, Lord, your servant am I;
you have loosened my bonds.

Alleluia.
A thanksgiving sacrifice I make;
I will call on the Lord’s name.
My vows to the Lord I will fulfil
before all his people.
To you, Lord, I will offer a sacrifice of praise.

Scripture: The words in the scripture that spoke to me today are

I trusted, even when I said:
‘I am sorely afflicted,’
and when I said in my alarm:
‘No man can be trusted.’

Observation: What is Jesus saying personally to me today – Trust in something greater than yourself

When all is not right, when I know that I am afflicted with faults and that others are not trustworthy where and what do I turn to? Jesus is offering something that brings me out of despair of hopelessness and what he offers is based in my trust of him. It is the balance between acceptance of the world, myself and its failings and the belief that no matter what happens, something good is at work. Glass half full or glass half empty? The glass is always full because it contains air and even if I know that it will be empty of fluid it will only be more full of air and this is the message for me. That Jesus is always there, in many shapes and forms, that despite everything I trust that he is always present and filling my cup.

Thank you for speaking to me Jesus

Application: How do I respond to what Jesus is saying to me today, right now what do I do?

I am in a position where I don’t have a lot of trust in the people around me, some of them are actively against me. No matter what I do it feels like it is making no difference to the way they trust me or don’t trust me. Today I need to turn to Jesus and ask for help in this situation because it feels like I have been trusting myself and my own abilities to change this. I will pray that Jesus places people around me that will facilitate his desires and will.

Prayer:

Lord,
deliver me from my own will.
Deliver me the people that you want around me.
Send me the grace to truly trust in your providence.
Amen
