The right heart of mercy

What is Jesus saying personally to me today – The right heart of mercy

this poor widow has put in more than any of them
This goes way beyond giving money! It goes to reveal what is in someone’s heart and the heart of Jesus is revealed in this short passage as well. The poor woman gives out of care and compassion for others and Jesus acclaims and affirms this gesture that also comes from a heart of mercy and compassion. Although it appears a significant gesture of sacrifice it confirms to me that Jesus is more concerned with our hearts and intentions.

Thank you for speaking to me Jesus

How do I respond to what Jesus is saying personally to me today?

It is painfully revealed to me today that I have been misguided even lying to myself that my service is merciful and compassionate when in fact it is just sacrifice. This is not what Jesus wants from me and he says it clearly in the gospels. Today I will reflect on my this as it is a deeply provocative message, uncomfortable at the least and very important. I suspect that I have been offered a very big lesson today.

I accept the lesson, teach me O wisdom.
May I go deeper into mercy and compassion and leave all sacrifice alone.

Luke 21:1-4

As Jesus looked up, he saw rich people putting their offerings into the treasury; then he happened to notice a poverty-stricken widow putting in two small coins, and he said, ‘I tell you truly, this poor widow has put in more than any of them; for these have all contributed money they had over, but she from the little she had has put in all she had to live on.’
