Service undeterred but open hearted

Luke 14:15-24

One of those gathered round the table said to Jesus, ‘Happy the man who will be at the feast in the kingdom of God!’ But he said to him, ‘There was a man who gave a great banquet, and he invited a large number of people.

When the time for the banquet came, he sent his servant to say to those who had been invited, “Come along: everything is ready now.” But all alike started to make excuses. The first said, “I have bought a piece of land and must go and see it. Please accept my apologies.” Another said, “I have bought five yoke of oxen and am on my way to try them out. Please accept my apologies.” Yet another said, “I have just got married and so am unable to come.”
‘The servant returned and reported this to his master. Then the householder, in a rage, said to his servant, “Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in here the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.” “Sir” said the servant “your orders have been carried out and there is still room.” Then the master said to his servant, “Go to the open roads and the hedgerows and force people to come in to make sure my house is full; because, I tell you, not one of those who were invited shall have a taste of my banquet.”’

Scripture:The words in the scripture that spoke to me today are

Sir” said the servant “your orders have been carried out and there is still room.

Observation: What is Jesus saying personally to me today- Service undeterred but open hearted.

The role of the servant speaks to me today. He goes about his instructions and is given some pretty ordinary excuses from people not to attend an event that that can see is great. He is faced with the anger and frustration from His master and is still goes about his business without fuss, undeterred and still open hearted. There is no prideful response, not sulking, no loss of energy and no harsh words. He serves in silence with out losing his way.

Thank you for speaking to me Jesus

Application: How do I respond to what Jesus is saying to me today?

I frequently become despondent when I don’t get a response that I want when I am trying to be loving and represent Gods love. Rejected, misinterpreting intentions, taking on the language of others and concentrating on their words are my common responses. This only leads me away from God and any sence of peace that I may have started off with. Today I need to stay within a place that God exists and not be distracted. I will serve with an open heart today.

Thank you for revealing to me my pride in attempting to serve.
Thank you for the humbling experience.
May I not be distracted from you by my ego.
I will hold you close today and inch myself closer to you while you wait ever patiently
