I have a body, I am not my body

What is Jesus saying personally to me today – I have a body, I am not my body

We have a body, made from the earth, it is only the vessel that carries our true existence which is our souls. Our bodies, thoughts and feelings are of this physical world but Paul is trying to get us to see that our true existence is actually not of physical or worldly form. We live in the world but not of the world, I have a body but I am not defined by my body, I am so much more than that limited perspective.

Thank you for speaking to me Jesus

How do I respond to what Jesus is saying personally to me today?

Jesus is really pressing this one home for me lately, encouraging me to let go of the ego and all the identities that I think are important. He wants me to love these physical parts of me from the part that he created. A wise person is encouraging me to ask the question, which part of me is making the decisions, is it my soul or the physical egoic part of me, or in other words, who’s driving this bus? This is a question I need to ask all the time because sometimes I just cant tell or I am not even aware who the driver is.

Help me to be the one that exists within you, not the worldly version.
May I love both parts of me equally, standing face to face with you.
Through your grace may my soul reveal itself in this world.

2 Corinthians 4:7-15

We are only the earthenware jars that hold this treasure, to make it clear that such an overwhelming power comes from God and not from us. We are in difficulties on all sides, but never cornered; we see no answer to our problems, but never despair; we have been persecuted, but never deserted; knocked down, but never killed; always, wherever we may be, we carry with us in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus, too, may always be seen in our body. Indeed, while we are still alive, we are consigned to our death every day, for the sake of Jesus, so that in our mortal flesh the life of Jesus, too, may be openly shown. So death is at work in us, but life in you.
But as we have the same spirit of faith that is mentioned in scripture – I believed, and therefore I spoke – we too believe and therefore we too speak, knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus to life will raise us with Jesus in our turn, and put us by his side and you with us. You see, all this is for your benefit, so that the more grace is multiplied among people, the more thanksgiving there will be, to the glory of God.
