Use the gifts

What is Jesus saying personally to me today – Use the gifts

That is why you must rely on God’s armour, or you will not be able to put up any resistance when the worst happens, or have enough resources to hold your ground.

God knows the challenges, that we have human frailty through temptation and ego, so what does he do? He gives us the gifts of armour and weapons to protect us based in his integrity, peace, faith, salvation and his actual spirit. It’s all there on offer so use the gifts and be prepared to be in covered by his love and protection.

How do I respond to what Jesus is saying personally to me today?

I feel so silly after reading this for I know it to be true, I was putting on Gods armour then stopped. Since I have stopped it has gotten almost unbearably difficult, no coincidence hey? I have the Gods armour prayer on my desk and its time to stop seeing through it like it doesn’t exist and start saying it every day again.

Prayer

Lord,

I seek your protection and accept your gifts.I will use them with gratitude

Amen

Ephesians 6:10-20

Grow strong in the Lord, with the strength of his power. Put God’s armour on so as to be able to resist the devil’s tactics. For it is not against human enemies that we have to struggle, but against the Sovereignties and the Powers who originate the darkness in this world, the spiritual army of evil in the heavens. That is why you must rely on God’s armour, or you will not be able to put up any resistance when the worst happens, or have enough resources to hold your ground.
So stand your ground, with truth buckled round your waist, and integrity for a breastplate, wearing for shoes on your feet the eagerness to spread the gospel of peace and always carrying the shield of faith so that you can use it to put out the burning arrows of the evil one. And then you must accept salvation from God to be your helmet and receive the word of God from the Spirit to use as a sword.
Pray all the time, asking for what you need, praying in the Spirit on every possible occasion. Never get tired of staying awake to pray for all the saints; and pray for me to be given an opportunity to open my mouth and speak without fear and give out the mystery of the gospel of which I am an ambassador in chains; pray that in proclaiming it I may speak as boldly as I ought to.

Assume Holiness

Assume Holiness cover

What is Jesus saying personally to me today – Assume Holiness

“this would hardly become the saints! ” . Paul frequently refers to people as saints, assuming their holiness rather than the belief that they are on their way. The same can go for ourselves, our holiness is inherent and our true disposition. When we allow ourselves to be defined by our flaws, we become our flaws as a self fulfilling prophecy. Assume holiness is the word for today.

Thank you for speaking to me Jesus

How do I respond to what Jesus is saying personally to me today?

Simple, stop believing in the lies that my mind’s telling me at the moment. A great invitation to see myself as God sees me is on offer as it always is and it is all up to me to ensure my focus is on the holiness within me. Apparently there is a saint inside of me so that it what I will focus, concentrate and see with in me.

Prayer

Lord,
allow me through your grace to see my true self made in your image.
Amen

Ephesians 4:32-5:8

Be friends with one another, and kind, forgiving each other as readily as God forgave you in Christ.
Try, then, to imitate God as children of his that he loves and follow Christ loving as he loved you, giving himself up in our place as a fragrant offering and a sacrifice to God. Among you there must be not even a mention of fornication or impurity in any of its forms, or promiscuity: this would hardly become the saints! There must be no coarseness, or salacious talk and jokes – all this is wrong for you; raise your voices in thanksgiving instead. For you can be quite certain that nobody who actually indulges in fornication or impurity or promiscuity – which is worshipping a false god – can inherit anything of the kingdom of God. Do not let anyone deceive you with empty arguments: it is for this loose living that God’s anger comes down on those who rebel against him. Make sure that you are not included with them. You were darkness once, but now you are light in the Lord; be like children of light.

Signposts

What is Jesus saying personally to me today – Signposts

Jesus gives us credit for being able to see or know the the truth but he also rebukes the crowd for ignoring it. There is a part of us that knows right from wrong, fake from real, what’s from God and what’s from us and this is what Jesus almost begs us to concentrate on. He assumes confidently that as children of God there is a connection that needs to become conscious not buried behind our selfishness, self orientated desires. He leaves signposts all over the place for us to see and become aware of.

How do I respond to what Jesus is saying personally to me today?

There is a film over my eyes and ears at the moment but I do not for one minute believe that God has abandoned me. Today’s reading says to me to have faith, spend sometime sitting so that I can see the signposts. For the first time in a long time I have a fear of losing something dear to me and there must be something that God is showing me that I haven’t been able to see. Prayer and fasting just like Jesus and all the great saints did is my to be my response.

Prayer:

Lord,
I need your grace to see your signs, your ways and presence in among all this.
I surrender to what ever your desires are.
Quiet my mind, settle my body
Amen

Luke 12:54-59

Jesus said to the crowds: ‘When you see a cloud looming up in the west you say at once that rain is coming, and so it does. And when the wind is from the south you say it will be hot, and it is. Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the face of the earth and the sky. How is it you do not know how to interpret these times?
‘Why not judge for yourselves what is right? For example: when you go to court with your opponent, try to settle with him on the way, or he may drag you before the judge and the judge hand you over to the bailiff and the bailiff have you thrown into prison. I tell you, you will not get out till you have paid the very last penny.’

Grace and Grace alone

What is Jesus saying personally to me today -grace and Grace alone

I recently wrote an account of my life for a book just published, I could have saved myself some time and just cut and paste this reading and it would have been a perfect representation of my life. Grace is such a mysterious and unearnt gift it’s hard to get your head around it most of the time. When it does happen it is important not to claim a personal victory or responsibility of any form of success. In fact, it is the perfect time for gratitude for we are saved by grace and grace alone.

How do I respond to what Jesus is saying personally to me today?

I do not know or understand how God works but I do know that he is always at work in my life. While it is spiritually quiet, or it feels this way, or when it is not obvious that God is present it is important for me to be grateful. I know he is here, that Jesus is looking over me even if I can’t see it right now, so I will be grateful in advance, not in retrospect or hindsight. A day of gratitude today.

Prayer:

I am saved through your grace and your grace alone.
I have little to do with it but if you can open my heart just that little bit more, I would be grateful.
I thank you Jesus for this love that you so generously shower upon me
Amen

Ephesians 2:1-10

You were dead through the crimes and the sins in which you used to live when you were following the way of this world, obeying the ruler who governs the air, the spirit who is at work in the rebellious. We all were among them too in the past, living sensual lives, ruled entirely by our own physical desires and our own ideas; so that by nature we were as much under God’s anger as the rest of the world. But God loved us with so much love that he was generous with his mercy: when we were dead through our sins, he brought us to life with Christ – it is through grace that you have been saved – and raised us up with him and gave us a place with him in heaven, in Christ Jesus.
This was to show for all ages to come, through his goodness towards us in Christ Jesus, how infinitely rich he is in grace. Because it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith; not by anything of your own, but by a gift from God; not by anything that you have done, so that nobody can claim the credit. We are God’s work of art, created in Christ Jesus to live the good life as from the beginning he had meant us to live it.

The Hope of Freedom

What is Jesus saying personally to me today – The hope of Freedom

“we too groan inwardly as we wait for our bodies to be set free.” This groaning inwardly feels like pain, weakness, frustration, impatience but the key message in the reading is hope, the hope of freedom from the constraints of our bodies. There is a disproportionate influence our bodies have over our minds and actions until the point in time where we face it with love, acceptance and the freedom of being one with God. This doesn’t mean giving up, being overly judgmental or harsh but rather a loving and hopeful disposition where we journey along the freedom path without reluctance.

How do I respond to what Jesus is saying personally to me today?

For me it is to get the balancing act right. The right measure of fortitude and persistence with the right measure of surrender, hope and trust. I nearly gave up on this morning until I read the scriptures and it was the perfect reminder to keep on going with the hope of freedom. I cannot allow my body to be my master but I must love it while surrendering to Gods’ spirit. So I recommit to my practices today, don’t change direction and continue to pray to Mary for intercession.

Prayer:

Lord,
through your holy mother I reach out to you for more of your freedom.
May my master be your spirit not my body.
May I love and respect this body that you have given me to carry this soul that you created in you.
Amen

Romans 8:22-27

From the beginning till now the entire creation, as we know, has been groaning in one great act of giving birth; and not only creation, but all of us who possess the first-fruits of the Spirit, we too groan inwardly as we wait for our bodies to be set free. For we must be content to hope that we shall be saved – our salvation is not in sight, we should not have to be hoping for it if it were – but, as I say, we must hope to be saved since we are not saved yet – it is something we must wait for with patience.
The Spirit too comes to help us in our weakness. For when we cannot choose words in order to pray properly, the Spirit himself expresses our plea in a way that could never be put into words, and God who knows everything in our hearts knows perfectly well what he means, and that the pleas of the saints expressed by the Spirit are according to the mind of God.
