Go with the flow

What is Jesus saying personally to me today – Go with the flow

I love how Peter is so impulsive and spontaneous wanting to build tents and hang on to the moment of being in the company of greatness. Jesus has other plans and even while Peter is speaking things are changing. If we are to be changeable and transformed, then we need to go with the flow of God, as learning about his love is a never ending journey. Even if the moment is a good one, it is obvious that there is so much more so be prepared for even greater things.

Thank you for speaking to me Jesus

How do I respond to what Jesus is saying personally to me today?

Change is something that I am familiar with, look forward to and know is necessary. The message for me today is to go with the flow of God and keep doing what I am doing. Lean in to His love, listen to his word and have the courage to continue to allow his love transform me. Keep doing all the practices that I have been instructed and called to do, don’t stop now.

Prayer:

Lord,
coniute to mould me into your vision of me.
I seek you word and the knowledge of your love and wisdom,
Thank you for the encouragement to continue.
Amen.

Matthew 17:1-9

Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a high mountain where they could be alone. There in their presence he was transfigured: his face shone like the sun and his clothes became as white as the light. Suddenly Moses and Elijah appeared to them; they were talking with him. Then Peter spoke to Jesus. ‘Lord,’ he said ‘it is wonderful for us to be here; if you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.’ He was still speaking when suddenly a bright cloud covered them with shadow, and from the cloud there came a voice which said, ‘This is my Son, the Beloved; he enjoys my favour. Listen to him.’ When they heard this the disciples fell on their faces overcome with fear. But Jesus came up and touched them. ‘Stand up,’ he said ‘do not be afraid.’ And when they raised their eyes they saw no one but only Jesus.
As they came down from the mountain Jesus gave them this order, ‘Tell no one about the vision until the Son of Man has risen from the dead.’

Scraps or delicacies

What is Jesus saying personally to me today – Scraps or delicacies

One persons scraps are another persons delicacies as it is perceived by the woman in the reading. The message or question for me is how do we perceive the small things, the blessings, are we looking at them as deficient, not enough, wishing for more or accepting them as a great feast and blessing?

Thank you for speaking to me Jesus

How do I respond to what Jesus is saying personally to me today?

Where is my focus today? It must be on the all the things that God is offering, small or big, crumbs or the whole meal, the size is not important, what it represents and how I receive or perceive it is. Today I will focus on all delicacies that God is providing me, be grateful and thankful because it will not be hard to see how generous God is being to me right now.

Prayer:

Lord,
All that you give are delicacies of unmeasurable value.
Give the grace to see your hand at work in my life with an attitude of gratitude
Thank you Jesus for blessing me abundantly
Amen

Matthew 15:21-28

Jesus left Gennesaret and withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. Then out came a Canaanite woman from that district and started shouting, ‘Sir, Son of David, take pity on me. My daughter is tormented by a devil.’ But he answered her not a word. And his disciples went and pleaded with him. ‘Give her what she wants,’ they said ‘because she is shouting after us.’ He said in reply, ‘I was sent only to the lost sheep of the House of Israel.’ But the woman had come up and was kneeling at his feet. ‘Lord,’ she said ‘help me.’ He replied, ‘It is not fair to take the children’s food and throw it to the house-dogs.’ She retorted, ‘Ah yes, sir; but even house-dogs can eat the scraps that fall from their master’s table.’ Then Jesus answered her, ‘Woman, you have great faith. Let your wish be granted.’ And from that moment her daughter was well again.

We are his Collaborators

What is Jesus saying personally to me today – We are his collaborators

In both the first and Gospel reading it speaks about how we have a part to play in bringing Gods presence in the world through many different ways. Through warning and coaching others, through healing, we are given a great responsibility and power. We are all connected, we are Gods collaborators, we are all created in God so the call is not one of individualism, its about the collective. What we do for ourselves we do for all so perhaps we should think about the knock on affects of our actions.

Thank you for speaking to me Jesus

How do I respond to what Jesus is saying personally to me today?

I have to be very careful about what I think, say and do and I am treading a fine line line between love and anger. What I say and do to others I am effectively doing to myself so I better be careful. I will ask God to guide me in my words and actions today as I have to take some action and it is important where and what my heart and eyes focused on.

Prayer:

Lord
Guide me in my thoughts and actions today.
Provide me with your response not mine.
I ask to be your instrument, take away anything in my heart that is not from you.
Remind me to come back to you if I wonder away.
Amen

Ezekiel 3:17-21

The word of the Lord was addressed to me as follows, ‘Son of man, I have appointed you as sentry to the House of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from me, warn them in my Name. If I say to a wicked man, “You are to die,” and you do not warn him; if you do not speak and warn him to renounce his evil ways and so live, then he shall die for his sin, but I will hold you responsible for his death. If, however, you do warn a wicked man and he does not renounce his wickedness and his evil ways, then he shall die for his sin, but you yourself will have saved your life. When the upright man renounces his integrity to do evil and I set a trap for him, he too shall die; since you failed to warn him, he shall die for his sin and the integrity he practised will no longer be remembered; but I will hold you responsible for his death. If, however, you warn the upright man not to sin and he abstains from sinning, he shall live, thanks to your warning, and you too will have saved your life.’

Lord save me

Lord save me

What is Jesus saying personally to me today – Lord save me

In the middle of a storm, the dark of night, a howling wind and a heavy sea, Jesus believed in Peter. While Peter had his eyes and heart fixed on Jesus he was able to do as Jesus did and walk on water. As soon as he became distracted, he became vulnerable to the elements. There is nothing elemental or spiritual that can take us away from Jesus, it is when we veer away from him that we become vulnerable, the awesome thing is though, He will rescue us if we call upon his name.

Thank you for Speaking to me Jesus

How do I respond to what Jesus is saying personally to me today?

It only takes a split second to be distracted and take my eyes off Jesus then it inevitably goes wrong and I start to sink in to the waters of sin, doubt and fear. Jesus thinks that I can walk on water, that, he understands that sometimes I may sink in to the water but he will always be there to save me if I call on his name. At a time when I am in a storm I am trying desperately to keep my eyes on Jesus and He has been carrying me, protecting and supporting me, so I don’t know why I stop and get distracted. I cant work this out and all I have today is to cry out as Peter did and ask the Lord to save me.

Prayer:

Lord save me.
Though your grace may I keep my eyes and heart fixed on you.
Amen

Matthew 14:22-36

Jesus walks on the water
Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the other side while he would send the crowds away. After sending the crowds away he went up into the hills by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, while the boat, by now far out on the lake, was battling with a heavy sea, for there was a head-wind. In the fourth watch of the night he went towards them, walking on the lake, and when the disciples saw him walking on the lake they were terrified. ‘It is a ghost’ they said, and cried out in fear. But at once Jesus called out to them, saying, ‘Courage! It is I! Do not be afraid.’ It was Peter who answered. ‘Lord,’ he said ‘if it is you, tell me to come to you across the water.’ ‘Come’ said Jesus. Then Peter got out of the boat and started walking towards Jesus across the water, but as soon as he felt the force of the wind, he took fright and began to sink. ‘Lord! Save me!’ he cried. Jesus put out his hand at once and held him. ‘Man of little faith,’ he said ‘why did you doubt?’ And as they got into the boat the wind dropped. The men in the boat bowed down before him and said, ‘Truly, you are the Son of God.’
Having made the crossing, they came to land at Gennesaret. When the local people recognised him they spread the news through the whole neighbourhood and took all that were sick to him, begging him just to let them touch the fringe of his cloak. And all those who touched it were completely cured.

Too much for my strength

What is Jesus saying personally to me today – Too much for my strength

Just because we love God doesn’t mean that it will all be easy in this physical life. There will be challenges and sometimes we may even be persecuted unjustly, hated without cause and there is no point trying to work out why this might be so. So we turn to God, not away, we share our pain with God and we acknowledge that it is too much for our own strength to deal with. What a blessing that’s we always have someone to turn to.

Thank you Jesus for speaking to me

How do I respond to what Jesus is saying personally to me today?

I so feel like the Psalmist, persecuted, hated for no good reason by so many. There is a possibility that this can all lead to me losing my job, affect my future employment prospects, security and take me to places that I never thought I would go. This is definitely too much for my strength and I cannot do this alone. There is only one way to go here for me and that is to trust in God, pray, not to loose sight of him and hand it over. I cant just say this now and forget about it for the rest of the day. Every time I feel myself being drawn in to the negative, the resentful, the anger, the disbelief, I must literally walk away, pray and bring myself back in to awareness of Gods presence.

Prayer:

Lord,
This is too much for my strength.
I turn to you for everything, carry me through as you always do.
You are my protector, comfort and love,
Nothing will break that
Amen

Psalm 68(69):5,8-10,14

Lord, in your great love, answer me.
More numerous than the hairs on my head
are those who hate me without cause.
Those who attack me with lies
are too much for my strength.
How can I restore
what I have never stolen?
Lord, in your great love, answer me.
It is for you that I suffer taunts,
that shame covers my face,
that I have become a stranger to my brothers,
an alien to my own mother’s sons.
I burn with zeal for your house
and taunts against you fall on me.
Lord, in your great love, answer me.
This is my prayer to you,
my prayer for your favour.
In your great love, answer me, O God,
with your help that never fails.
Lord, in your great love, answer me.
