Accept and consume

Luke 10:1-9

The Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them out ahead of him, in pairs, to all the towns and places he himself was to visit. He said to them, ‘The harvest is rich but the labourers are few, so ask the Lord of the harvest to send labourers to his harvest.

Start off now, but remember, I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. Carry no purse, no haversack, no sandals. Salute no one on the road. Whatever house you go into, let your first words be, “Peace to this house!” And if a man of peace lives there, your peace will go and rest on him; if not, it will come back to you. Stay in the same house, taking what food and drink they have to offer, for the labourer deserves his wages; do not move from house to house. Whenever you go into a town where they make you welcome, eat what is set before you. Cure those in it who are sick, and say, “The kingdom of God is very near to you.”’
Scripture: The words in the scripture that spoke to me today are

taking what food and drink they have to offer
eat what is set before you.

Observation: What is Jesus saying personally to me today- Accept and consume

I take the image of receiving food and eating as a metaphor for Gods love through the lessons he provides me. Accept these lessons and then take it to a deeper level of consuming them so that they actually enter my being and become a part of me. I don’t like all food and some of it doesn’t agree with my stomach, a bit like some of the messages I receive from God. Good food is a gift, not all of it tastes good but it is good for me.

Thank you for speaking to me Jesus

Application: How do I respond to what Jesus is saying to me today, right now what do I do?

This makes me think of how I am digesting and consuming my lessons. I have a love, dislike, relationship with the holy spirit sometimes ,where I recognise and appreciate the instruction and learning but my ego puts up a fight. So on some level I feel like accept his food. I ask myself the question of how I am letting this sink deeper, be permanent in any changes I need to make and what I have dismissed or forgotten. Last week I reviewed 20 of my past reflections and it was really interesting going back on what God had said to me. From now on, I will at the end of each week, go back and read what God said and see where I need to go deeper, repeat and review in order for a deeper consumption.

Prayer:

Lord,
listen, receive, repeat and consume at the deepest levels is what I hear you want me to do.
May each week be a plentiful banquet in which I choose to feast.
May through your spirit may I be affected to my limits as you see fit.
Amen
