Too much for my strength

What is Jesus saying personally to me today – Too much for my strength

Just because we love God doesn’t mean that it will all be easy in this physical life. There will be challenges and sometimes we may even be persecuted unjustly, hated without cause and there is no point trying to work out why this might be so. So we turn to God, not away, we share our pain with God and we acknowledge that it is too much for our own strength to deal with. What a blessing that’s we always have someone to turn to.

Thank you Jesus for speaking to me

How do I respond to what Jesus is saying personally to me today?

I so feel like the Psalmist, persecuted, hated for no good reason by so many. There is a possibility that this can all lead to me losing my job, affect my future employment prospects, security and take me to places that I never thought I would go. This is definitely too much for my strength and I cannot do this alone. There is only one way to go here for me and that is to trust in God, pray, not to loose sight of him and hand it over. I cant just say this now and forget about it for the rest of the day. Every time I feel myself being drawn in to the negative, the resentful, the anger, the disbelief, I must literally walk away, pray and bring myself back in to awareness of Gods presence.

Prayer:

Lord,
This is too much for my strength.
I turn to you for everything, carry me through as you always do.
You are my protector, comfort and love,
Nothing will break that
Amen

Psalm 68(69):5,8-10,14

Lord, in your great love, answer me.
More numerous than the hairs on my head
are those who hate me without cause.
Those who attack me with lies
are too much for my strength.
How can I restore
what I have never stolen?
Lord, in your great love, answer me.
It is for you that I suffer taunts,
that shame covers my face,
that I have become a stranger to my brothers,
an alien to my own mother’s sons.
I burn with zeal for your house
and taunts against you fall on me.
Lord, in your great love, answer me.
This is my prayer to you,
my prayer for your favour.
In your great love, answer me, O God,
with your help that never fails.
Lord, in your great love, answer me.

Live like its all here

Live like its all here

What is Jesus saying personally to me today – Live like it’s all here

The declarations in Old Testament and New Testament span a great period of time and contains a universal message. Those that seek God are blessed, have everything they need lacking nothing and will experience his love. It doesn’t say, wait a bit and it will come, it says here and now so perhaps this is the message, live like its here.

Thank you for speaking to me Jesus

How do I respond to what Jesus is saying personally to me today?

I find it interesting when I get a message from a secular source without it mentioning God, somewhat doubt it, then I get the same message from God. He definitely is speaking to me through different mediums, people and events bit it doesn’t really matter where it comes from as long as I am doing it all with God. So todays message of live like it’s here is confirmed and I will not wait until things get better, they are better right now. There is no need to waste the little time I have on this earth waiting as I know that God is with me and that’s all that matters. I actually have all that I need, there is nothing that I want that takes away my living in the presence of God. This is something that I take in to meditation today.

Prayer:

Lord,
You are everything that I need and want
I live today and everyday knowing that I lack for nothing for you live within me.
Please continue to speak to me through what ever way you see fit and keep my eyes and heart open to see it.
Amen

Psalm 33(34):2-11

Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
I will bless the Lord at all times,
his praise always on my lips;
in the Lord my soul shall make its boast.
The humble shall hear and be glad.

Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
Glorify the Lord with me.
Together let us praise his name.
I sought the Lord and he answered me;
from all my terrors he set me free.

Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
Look towards him and be radiant;
let your faces not be abashed.
This poor man called, the Lord heard him
and rescued him from all his distress.

Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
The angel of the Lord is encamped
around those who revere him, to rescue them.
Taste and see that the Lord is good.
He is happy who seeks refuge in him.

Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
Revere the Lord, you his saints.
They lack nothing, those who revere him.
Strong lions suffer want and go hungry
but those who seek the Lord lack no blessing.

Now more than ever

Now more than ever

What is Jesus saying personally to me today – now more than ever

There is much terror going on for the people in this reading but after they declare all that is and has happened, they declare their hope in God. Now more than ever did they need God and rather than turn away, they turned to Him. A good lesson for me.

How do I respond to what Jesus is saying personally to me today?

Just as I thought it couldn’t get any harder, and I might have said that several times over the last few months, it takes yet another turn to even harder. My reputation is being attacked which is interesting because I have always declared that it isn’t important. So now lets see if it really isn’t as important I have said. Now more than ever do I need to turn to God in trust, faith and hope that everything will go his way. All day I must keep going back to him when my mind wonders and my ego takes over.

Prayer:

Lord,
I turn to you again and again.
Guide and protect me
Keep my heart full of tender love
And not turn to the ways of the world
Amen

Jeremiah 14:17-22

The Lord said to me:
Say this word to the people:
‘Tears flood my eyes
night and day, unceasingly,
since a crushing blow falls on the daughter of my people,
a most grievous injury.
If I go into the countryside,
there lie men killed by the sword;
if I go into the city,
I see people sick with hunger;
even prophets and priests
plough the land: they are at their wit’s end.’
‘Have you rejected Judah altogether?
Does your very soul revolt at Zion?
Why have you struck us down without hope of cure?
We were hoping for peace – no good came of it!
For the moment of cure – nothing but terror!
Lord, we do confess our wickedness
and our fathers’ guilt:
we have indeed sinned against you.
For your name’s sake do not reject us,
do not dishonour the throne of your glory.
Remember us; do not break your covenant with us.
Can any of the pagan Nothings make it rain?
Can the heavens produce showers?
No, it is you, Lord.
O our God, you are our hope,
since it is you who do all this.’

In Gods way in Gods time

What is Jesus saying personally to me today

How many lessons or benefits were there for Jeremiah in this passage? Was it that this was faith building, fine tuning his listening, deepening trust or just that God ended up providing him a tangible sign for him to relate to others? I don’t know the answer, but what I hear is that even if what God asks us doesn’t make any sense at all, it will at some stage and that it was always more sensible that anything we could conjure.

How do I respond to what Jesus is saying personally to me today?

There are so many things that God is doing that I just do not understand. It doesn’t make any sense to me, its not rational in my way of thinking, it just doesn’t make any sense! I am sure that Jeremiah questioned why God asked him to do things that made no sense but he actually went off and did them without any apparent reluctance or belligerence. So instead of half believing, of half embracing, of half trusting, I pick two things that I need to completely trust that it is all gods plan, in Gods way, in His time and that he only uses the things of this world to bring me closer to him.

Prayer:

Lord,

I believe that all you do is nothing but love me. Take away my worldly sensibilities and replace it with a trust and faith in you. May I be like Jeremiah, obedient, serving and faithful to you.

Amen

Jeremiah 13:1-11

The Lord said this to me, ‘Go and buy a linen loincloth and put it round your waist. But do not dip it in water.’ And so, as the Lord had ordered, I bought a loincloth and put it round my waist. A second time the word of the Lord was spoken to me, ‘Take the loincloth that you have bought and are wearing round your waist; up! Go to the Euphrates and hide it in a hole in the rock.’ So I went and hid it near the Euphrates as the Lord had ordered me. Many days afterwards the Lord said to me, ‘Get up and go to the Euphrates and fetch the loincloth I ordered you to hide there.’ So I went to the Euphrates, and I searched, and I took the loincloth from the place where I had hidden it. The loincloth was spoilt, good for nothing. Then the word of the Lord was addressed to me, ‘Thus says the Lord: In the same way I will spoil the arrogance of Judah and Jerusalem. This evil people who refuse to listen to my words, who follow the dictates of their own hard hearts, who have followed alien gods, and served them and worshipped them, let them become like this loincloth, good for nothing. For just as a loincloth clings to a man’s waist, so I had intended the whole House of Judah to cling to me – it is the Lord who speaks – to be my people, my glory, my honour and my boast. But they have not listened.’

What’s the quality of my soil?

What is Jesus saying personally to me today – What is the quality of my soil?

The soil is our heart as that is where God places his word, his love and care in every single one of us. There is no one that doesn’t receive something from God but what happens to this love from there is dependant on the quality of the soil or the position of a persons heart. All we have to do is make sure that we are looking after our heart and making sure that our soil is prepared and fertilised enough for the love of God to take root and transform our lives.

Thank you for speaking to me Jesus

How do I respond to what Jesus is saying personally to me today?

Jesus has been speaking all week to me about my heart, about softening it and today he says something about giving it some care and attention. He will do His part and I must do my part, so what can I do to make sure that His love takes root within me? I have to spend some time in my heart and get out of my head as I am completely immersed in the troubles of the world and not in the affairs of my heart. No one can fix this, no one can provide the fertiliser, nutrients and water to make sure that the quality of my soil is great, except me and Gods love. So that’s my focus today and for the weekend, prayer, silence, self care, self love and softening of my heart is needed.

Prayer:

Lord,
Prepare my heart with me so that I can not just receive your love,
But let it take complete control of it.
May I love and respect this body that you have given me
As the vessel in which you exist in unity with me.
Soften my heart.
Amen

Matthew 13:18-23

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘You are to hear the parable of the sower. When anyone hears the word of the kingdom without understanding, the evil one comes and carries off what was sown in his heart: this is the man who received the seed on the edge of the path. The one who received it on patches of rock is the man who hears the word and welcomes it at once with joy. But he has no root in him, he does not last; let some trial come, or some persecution on account of the word, and he falls away at once. The one who received the seed in thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this world and the lure of riches choke the word and so he produces nothing. And the one who received the seed in rich soil is the man who hears the word and understands it; he is the one who yields a harvest and produces now a hundredfold, now sixty, now thirty.’
